Alice! The Web Comic

The last panel may be a bit confusing for some of you so allow me to explain: It’s an homage to one of the great comic strip pioneers, Winsor McCay, and two of his strips Dreams of a Rarebit Fiend, and Little Nemo in Slumberland.

Dreams of a Rarebit Fiend depicted a different character’s nightmares after having eaten rarebit before bed. Each comic ended with the character swearing off rarebit.

Little Nemo in Slumberland is McCay’s most famous work. Every week Nemo would enter his dreamworld landscape filled with unsual and sometimes bizarre adventures. And every week the strip ended with Nemo usually falling out of bed and calling for his Mama.

And that’s today’s history lesson.
