Way back in the early 90′s I was working on a strip concept to submit to the various syndicates. It was called Family Portrait and to be honest it was pretty bad but it did give me the seeds for Alice!. See for yourself here.
I put Family Portrait away and began working on some other concepts. At that time I played around with an animal strip called Wildlife and I also created an imaginative little girl with no name. Eventually she got a name and a best friend. However they were shelved while Wildlife was given life. (The full story of what happened with Wildlife can be seen here.)
Once I decided to give up on trying to become syndicated I turned my attention to the web. At the time there were only a handful of comics on the web (the term webcomic hadn’t even been coined yet), it seemed like such a perfect venue with complete control over my creations. So was born Inane Productions. I had big plans. Not only would I showcase Alice! but also Wildlife and another strip which never really got past the note stage. It wasn’t long before I knew that Alice was nearest and dearest to my heart and the other strips would be shelved.
And so on June 18th, 1999 Alice was born!
